Match report Sully v Aberfan FC

#AllianceLeague #UpTheSully

Sully Sports FC hosted Aberfan FC on Saturday 26th as both had a bye in the FAW Amateur cup. The game started with a minute’s silence for Mark Devonshire. Both sides have started the season well with wins and have further strengthen over the summer and the game did not disappoint. Sully started quickly out of the blocks scoring early on with the ball being played out from back and out to Amanj Hassan who crossed the ball dangerously into the box where Joe Collins headed into the net to make it 1-0. However, Aberfan were back on level terms in 3 minutes after Sully gave the ball away and the ball was worked quickly to Luke Tarr by Alex Jones at the edge of the box who was clinical to level the scoring. Sully quickly responded minutes later after Joe Collins flicked a ball to Luke Boyle inside the box who spun and scored. A few minutes the play was pulled back for a free kick and Aberfan’s Joshua Powell lifted the ball over the wall to make it 2-2. The game was frantic and very end of end with both goal keepers working hard. Sully trying to play through the thirds and Aberfan playing direct into their attacking wide players and both sides looked threatening. Sully then scored again with a flick on from Luke Boyle and Luke Evans took the ball around the GK to score. 3-2. Minutes later after Sully lost the ball Aberfan quickly transitioned the ball to Tarr who finished to make it 3-3. And then just before half time Aberfan played a long ball to the back post which was headed back across goal for Tarr to tap in and complete his hat trick giving Aberfan the lead 3-4 at HT. Whilst Sully had 62% possession in that the half Aberfan had 11 shots to 6 and many more corners. Aberfan’s main threat was from their wide players and Sully needed to retain the ball better to stop quick transitions.
After half time Sully kept the ball better and made several substitutions but an early mistake in communication meant Arron Mortan headed the ball into his own net and Aberfan were 3-5 up. However, Sully dominated the 2nd half Sully with 71% possession and completed more passes (114:50), more touched in the opposition half and double the number of the shots (14:7). Luke Evans was put through and clipped the ball past the Aberfan goalkeeper only for the ball to hit the inside of the post and somehow spin out. The goal of the game then came for Sully with a lovely turn in centre midfield for Cauis Mills who fed Kiean Eveleigh who dribbled forward and slid the ball through for Kier Mcinery to neatly finish. Luke Boyle then scored a few minutes later from again a wonderful free kick. Both sides pushed for a winner, but it finished 5-5. A great advert for the Alliance Championship.

Sully wishes to thank our sponsors Macron Cardiff and Pengwin.

And finally, both sides wish to thank the referee Kevin Morgan who was excellent throughout.
