Match Report: Island Marine 4-4 Sully
Date: Saturday, 5th October
Location: Barry, Early 9am Kick-off
It was an early start for both teams, but the action came thick and fast in this thrilling 8-goal contest between Island Marine and Sully. A rollercoaster of a match, filled with drama, comebacks, and some dazzling individual performances!
Sully got off to a flyer, with George coolly slotting past the keeper in just the 4th minute to give his team the lead. But Island Marine weren’t going to make it easy and struck back with two quick goals, flipping the scoreline on its head.
As the first half was drawing to a close, Sully showed their fighting spirit. A perfectly weighted through ball sent Dylan racing forward, forcing the keeper into a hurried clearance. The loose ball fell kindly to Toby, who, with a touch of finesse, chipped it over the stranded keeper to make it 2-2 going into the break.
Second Half: Determination & Drama
The second half was a true test of resilience for Sully. Island Marine regained the lead not once, but twice, making it 3-2 and then 4-3. But Sully weren’t backing down. Their never-say-die attitude shone through as they kept pushing forward.
Dexter put in a commanding display at the heart of the defence, keeping things steady under pressure. Tristan’s lung-busting runs down the left flank gave Sully some real momentum, and it was this hard work that helped set up Toby’s second. A beautifully worked team move found him at the edge of the penalty box, where he unleashed a thunderous volley to bring it back to 3-3.
Final Moments: The Late Equaliser
The real drama came with just five minutes left on the clock. Sully, pushing for yet another equaliser, won a free-kick wide on the right. When the ‘big guns’ Dexter, Elliot, and Tristan came charging into the box, the stage was set. Toby stepped up to take the free-kick and launched a high, powerful ball into the danger zone. The pressure from Sully’s attack caused havoc, and the Island Marine keeper lost his concentration as the ball sailed straight into the back of the net. Toby’s hat-trick secured a dramatic 4-4 draw!
Player Shoutouts:
- Honeybee pulled off some terrific saves and had excellent distribution, setting Sully up for counter-attacks.
- Dexter delivered a rock-solid performance in the centre of defence, keeping things tight at the back.
- Tristan covered every blade of grass on the left, with those lung-busting runs making a huge impact.
