Sully Pinks U14's travelled to Bridgend to play Coity Chiefs in the first round of the SWFA U14's Girls cup and in what turned out to be an enthralling match.
Coity Chiefs were asked to defend for long spells after Sully Pinks enjoyed lots of visits in to the Coity penalty area. Despite a number of shots on target and forcing numerous corners, Coity held firm and on 20 minutes, against the run of play, the home team took advantage of an awarded free kick as the Coity captain scored from a well drilled shot, 40 yards out. Sully wingers, Sophia Palmer and Abbie Daniel continued to force corners from strong runs and Abbie Daniel delivered some excellent crosses but Sully could not capitalise.
Amelia Poole went close as she struck the post from a 30 yard powerful shot just before HT and the score remained 1-0 to Coity at the break.
In the second half, Sully Pinks applied more pressure and created lots of shots from further entries in the penalty box. Anna O'Neill, off the back of her player of the match performance last week, continued to pull the strings from an attacking midfield position with her trickery and detailed passing. Eventually the pressure told and on 41 minutes, Sophia Francis ( centre forward) latched on to a loose ball to tap in from 6 yards out and bring the Pinks level.
On 49 minutes, Anna O'Neill grabbed a second goal for Sully after skillfully gliding passed a player in to the box and carving out a well time shot.
On 54 minutes, midfielder, Ffion P dribbled in to the box and placed a neat shot wide of the Coity goal keeper to increase the lead to 3-1. Sully Pinks camped themselves in the Coity half and created many more attacks, Sophia Palmer having a couple of good chances, striking the post with one.
On 65 minutes, Coity switched the ball quickly across the face of goal and scored to give Sully a bit of a fright with 5 minutes still to play. With the game still in the balance, entering added on time, Sully Captain, Izzy Lewis sealed the win with a 35 yard flighted shot in to the top corner and the game finished with 4-2 win for Sully Pinks.
Ffion P received player of the match for her disciplined and high tempo performance in midfield capped off with a great goal. Sully Pinks next play Hopkinstown in a Division 2 league fixture, next Sunday at home.
