Sully Sports Women chalked up a 3-1 win on the opening day of the season, in a closely contested match against local rivals, Cogan Coronation. The front line attack began to make numerous entries into the final third and tested the Cogan GK on several occasions early on. The back line were also called into action as Cogan countered quickly and Sully GK had to make a crucial and brave save which ended with her being clattered in the process. Emilie Dimick went close when hitting the cross bar from a fierce strike. It was on 38 minutes, striker Mali Gunning-Thomas broke the deadlock with a well timed shot low and wide of the GK. Sully were caught napping from the resulting Cogan restart and within seconds found themselves back on level terms. It remained 1-1 at HT.

The second half saw Sully on the front foot for much of the half. Captain, Molly Knight was enjoying the space on the right wing to deliver some dangerous crosses.
On 58 minutes, Knight and Elisha Plant worked a well planned set piece corner, which allowed Knight to cross in to the 6 yard box and Gunning-Thomas headed in for her second. Sully secured all 3 points after Maddy Campbell struck a thumping shot in on 62 minutes and the team played some controlled football.
Gunning-Thomas was denied a hatrick after her penalty was saved after she was brought down, when through on goal. Player of match went to Lowri Morris ( full back ) for a disciplined and solid performance. A great result for a team that was only formed 11 weeks ago in there first ever official match in the South Wales Womens and Girls League.
